The world as we knew it has changed. National Security; Immigration; Migration; Political Refugees; Economic Priorities; Employment Opportunities; Competitive Wages; Social Services…the list goes on and on. Frustration and uncertainty has led to half-hearted attempts at protection and compassion.
The time for kicking the can down the road has ended. It is time to fully, and properly, secure all of our borders – the Border Smart Wall™ does just that.
The days of Federal I-9 forms to check the legal employment status of each employee prior to the start of a shift has proven to be virtually useless in actual practice. Those employers who do comply with the mandated system have had to rely on documents presented to them by the prospective employee. The veracity of those documents are often suspect at best. The capability to check against a statewide or national database on a job site is unavailable.
The completed I-9 form is submitted to the individual state’s Department of Labor via fax or USPS “snail mail”. The I-9 is rarely checked against any kind of federal database on a timely basis. Part-time or casual workers working a single 4-hour “minimum” shift, or even a few days, are long gone by the time their fraudulent records background check catches up with them.
Workers who are not eligible for legal employment roam from one job site opportunity to another. Workers who are wanted for alimony or child support are long gone, with their last paycheck in their pocket, by the time an employer gets word to withhold wages that are being garnished. And that is IF an employer chooses to comply!
It is a well-known fact that unscrupulous employers pay sub-standard wages – in cash – without “wasting the time & paperwork” to be in full compliance. These employers deprive the workers not of just a fair wage, but often the employee provided the proper insurance and benefits that would be required if they conducted their business above-board.
The Freedom Smart Card System™ would resolve all of the non-compliance on both the employee and the employer ends.
E-Verification through The Freedom Smart Card System™ would apply to any visitors on a Tourist Visa; students on limited-stay Student Visas; and individuals here on temporary Work Visas.
The time to protect our National Security is long past due. Those who mean to do our people and our country harm, whether economically or through an act of terrorism will not wait. It has been well established and recognized by our Federal agencies charged with our protection that, “those who mean to do us harm need only be right once!”
It is not a matter of “IF”, it is a matter of “WHEN”! The Freedom Smart Card System™ will begin a roll-out within 6 months of legislation and funding.
Any system is only as effective as the laws that define it and the willpower to enforce it. There can be no opportunity for post-incident “Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda” finger-pointing or blame games. We need, once-and-for-all, to get it right this time, and every time.
Enforcement; Fines, Penalties, and Mandatory Sentences for failure to comply must be swift, sure and absolute. Those that mean to do us harm do not allow plea bargaining – why should we?
